Technical Requirements
Not all software solutions are created equal.
Just because your previous system performed well (or not) on a particular platform doesn’t mean the new one will behave in the same way. Every software product has its own set of technical requirements—hardware, software, operating environment, etc. that are designed to ensure optimal performance. It’s essential to thoroughly review these requirements and confirm that your infrastructure meets or exceeds them before deployment.
As part of the transition, technical staff and system administrators may need to get up to speed on new technologies, security considerations, or performance-related features unique to the new platform. A quick orientation or technical review can go a long way in ensuring a smooth migration and effective ongoing operation.
Additionally, be aware that most systems require ongoing maintenance beyond the initial setup. This may include tasks such as managing databases, monitoring web server health, cleaning up log files, handling temporary or installation files, and applying patches or updates. Understanding these requirements in advance allows your technical team to set up the necessary routines and tools to keep the system running efficiently over time.
SAAS / Hosted Solutions
Check with your vendor to enquire about hosting options, and what technical information you need to know about. Enquire about different tiers of hosting options available.
On-premise Solutions
On-premise solutions may offer advantages if you already have existing infrastructure and skills in-house, or are particularly concerned about data sovereignty and security. Review the system requirements of the solution, and keep in contact with the vendor to discuss configuration, optimizations and security recommendations.
